In 2008, in commemoration of the 75th season of the league, the
Winnipeg High School Football League established their Hall of
Fame. At the inaugural induction ceremony, 47 members of
our football community were recognized in one of three
categories: Builder, Coach, and Player. In 2009, another 24
members, including 3 officials were inducted. In 2010, outgoing
WHSFL commissioner Ron Gustafson was inducted into the Hall of
Fame to bring the total number of inductees to 72. In early
2010, the WHSFL established a committee to organize and run the
WHSFL Senior Bowl. One of the committees' goals was to tie the
history of the league to the senior bowl game. To that end, the
two teams that will compete each year in the WHSFL Senior Bowl
will be named after recent inductees into the WHSFL Hall of
Fame.
Last year, the two teams were named after Bob Wilkes and Paul
Robson, two gentlemen who have storied history with the league
and have remained involved with the league to this day.
This year, the WHSFL is proud to announce that the two teams
will be named after a pair of Winnipeg High School Football
coaching legends: Graham Kinley and Frank Bryan. In the 60's and
70's these tow gentlemen appeared in 15 WHSFL finals and coached
a total of 9 championship teams.
