Scott Norris Memorial Coaching Bursary
(Please submit 2012 applications by April
6th, 2012. All awards will be presented at the 2012 Super Clinic)
Scott Norris was a loving son and brother,
devoted husband and father, loyal friend and beloved coach. From
an early age Scott was involved in the Manitoba football
community
so it was only a natural choice to
continue being an active member as he got older. As a child he
participated in Pop Warner Football, was a member of the
Crescentwood Grizzlies Bantam Football team, the Fort Rouge
Packers and played for the Grant Park Pirates while in high
school. Scott then played for the Fort Garry Lions until 1987
when he set his sights on coaching.
Scott believed strongly in
mentoring and having the utmost respect for your teammate as
well as your opponent. He was a natural leader who created
harmony and good relationships within the groups he was a member
of. He was an outstanding amateur football coach who was
constantly upgrading his skills and knowledge of the game. With
over twenty years of coaching experience, Coach Norris is
considered the architect of the successful model that Football
Manitoba’s Provincial Team Program has become today. Scott
offered his technical expertise at all levels including
grassroots, high school, midget and junior. He coached Team
Canada at the World Juniors at Super Bowl XXXVII and guest
coached in 2003 with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. Most recently,
Scott was the Head Coach of the U17 Football Manitoba Provincial
Team from 2007-2008, winning a silver medal at Football Canada
Cup.
Throughout his life, Scott was a
gregarious and enthusiastic man. He illustrated his commitment,
dedication and sincere enthusiasm for the game of football and
more specifically the development of young coaches and athletes.
He was generous in sharing his personal attributes, and helping
those he knew and loved. Scott was imaginative, original, tender
hearted and easy to get along with. He left behind a legacy of
life-long friendships, cherished memories and a permanent
imprint from his contributions to the football community.
Football Manitoba has decided to
honor Scott’s memory with two annual bursaries for grass roots
and developmental coaching because of the massive contributions
he has made to our community. This year’s applications for the
bursaries will be accepted beginning in January 2012 and the
recipients will be announced at the 2012 Football Manitoba Super
Clinic.
