Goodspeed’s Return Good
News for Blue Bomber Fans

WBB RELEASE – 2008/018

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – Feb. 15, 2008

WINNIPEG, MB – The Winnipeg Blue Bombers announced today that they have agreed to terms with import offensive linemen Dan Goodspeed on a new multi-year contract.

“I’m really excited about the fact that I’m coming back to Winnipeg,” Goodspeed said. “In the couple of years that I’ve played up there I’ve developed a real fondness of the Canadian game and my wife and I both really like the city.

“The fact is Winnipeg is where I want to be, especially with everything we’ve accomplished the past three years. I want to build on that and get back to the Grey Cup. We’ve got a pretty good thing going on there and I want to be part of that.”

Bomber G.M. Brendan Taman said the re-signing of Goodspeed is an important first step in putting together a winning team in 2008.

“So much of what we did on offence last season was based upon the ability and experience of our offensive line,” Taman said.

“By re-signing Dan Goodspeed, we have ensured there will be a strong sense of continuity on our O-line for the foreseeable future. His work ethic is impeccable, he is a leader in the locker room and his play on the field speaks for itself.”

Goodspeed (6-6, 315, Kent State ’99, DOB: May 20, 1977 in Cleveland, Ohio) was the East Division representative for the CFL’s Outstanding Offensive Lineman Award in 2007 and was also named a CFL and East Division All-Star. Playing in all 18 regular season games, he and the rest of the Bomber O-line paved the way for running back Charles Roberts to rush for 1,379 yards and 16 touchdowns. Goodspeed and Co. also gave up the fewest quarterback sacks of any CFL team last season (27).

His outstanding play last season was an indication of Goodspeed’s fierce determination. He missed all but five games in 2006 following a serious knee injury.

Goodspeed began his CFL career in 2005 after signing with the Blue Bombers as a free agent. He started 16 regular season games that season after joining the team in late-June. His presence helped Roberts to lead the CFL in rushing that season while the Bomber O-line gave up the third fewest QB sacks in the league with 31.

Prior to joining the Big Blue, Goodspeed spent five seasons in the NFL with the likes of the San Francisco 49ers, New York Jets, Washington Redskins and Miami Dolphins and won a Super Bowl with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2003.

PLEASE NOTE: Dan Goodspeed will be available to speak with reporters via telephone at 1:30 p.m. in the Bomber Board Room. G.M. Brendan Taman will also be available at that time.
